ITCHYCOO PARK
After working together in various Scottish bands, the members of ITCHYCOO PARK decided in 1996 to form an act that would be a tribute to not just one band from the Sixties, but to their favourite parts of an entire decade of classic songs. From unforgettable performers to unsurpassed writing, ITCHYCOO PARK play everything from Tamla Motown to quintessential British pop, illustrating many of the acts that made this decade such an influential one in recent musical history.
ITCHYCOO PARK take you on a trip that may cause ‘flashbacks‘- but is always fun!
The stars are the songs themselves, when ITCHYCOO PARK play live; and while some of these popular tunes might point towards the roots of 'Brit-Pop' and today's new international guitar based rock; they should really be enjoyed for what they are - just great (not so) modern music. Even today many of the songs still seem to celebrate the discovery of some of the newly found freedoms of the Sixties generation, and also reflect something of that time's seemingly youthful optimism.
They say that if you remember the Sixties you weren't there - but it really doesn't matter since ITCHYCOO PARK want to take you on your own trip; either back through songs that might have been the backdrop to your youth or forward to new experiences if you've never heard any of this varied 'back-catalogue' played live before. Whether you are discovering (or re-discovering) the magic of this selection of British and American music, ITCHYCOO PARK hope you will enjoy remembering the pop classics of yesterday - even if it was "forty years ago, today" - or more!
Using a variety of genuine Sixties equipment, including AC30's, a 'violin' Bass and a Ludwig kit; ITCHYCOO PARK recreate many aspects of the original 'beat combo' format at their gigs, and also dress in a selection of Sixties inspired clothes, including that hallmark of the Sixties, the black polo neck, amongst other styles.
But beware, listening may take you on a journey and if you 'Take a Trip' the 'Next Stop' might be finding that you know all the words, and that you've 'arrived' - courtesy of ITCHYCOO PARK!
